In Kenyan culture it is considered rude to not finish your meal. I am ashamed to say that this would become what me and my daughter would come to fear the most......on one occasion me and Amber found ourselves as guests for lunch. We were served a heaping bowl of Kenyan food that we began to eat ,being sure to not look into the bowl as we claimed how delicious it was and how we needed to save some for Wayne who was still out working Lol....Then they served us there version of tea which was milk (fresh from the cow out front ) mixed with spices. We just couldn't drink it so when we were left alone, we decided that I would keep a look out while Amber poured it back into the thermos. But when Amber poured it back in, it was already full so it spilled everywhere. In a panic she began to look for something to clean it up but there was nothing...they don't have paper towels, towels, napkins. They would surely know what we had done and to make matters worse they were on their way back in....then in the corner of the room was my socks, Amber grabbed them and cleaned up the mess just in time. From that day forward we always had errands to run about an hour before lunch.
I know this is funny and we did have a good laugh but children facing starvation is not a laughing matter. I hope after spending some time there we will not be so spoiled when it comes to our bellies.
